Resolute Catalyst Show | Guest Jessica Oram

I was born in Dallas, Texas and raised in Plano from the age five. I graduated from Trinity Christian Academy in Addison in 1997, and went on to receive my Bachelor of Arts in History from Colorado Christian University in Lakewood, Colorado in 2002.
I met my husband, Dave, while in class at college and we married in the summer of 2002. I’m excited and proud to have the privilege of celebrating 10 years of marriage next month!
We have a five year old daughter who always keeps our lives interesting. She has Autism Spectrum Disorder (PDD-NOS), and while she is very high functioning, she still struggles with social interaction and appropriate communication, and she has some sensory and fine motor issues. She is incredibly smart and energetic, and always keeps things amusing around the Oram house. Currently, she is very emphatic about meal time prayers. She has been known to thank Jesus for the food, as well as thank Him for Halloween, Christmas and Valentines Day, polar bears, lions, snowmen and pirates. It’s pretty cute. She also loves to swim, dress up, play with her doll houses, and dig in the sand at her favorite park. I get a kick out of watching her life unfold and I am grateful to have the opportunity to be with her full time.
My professional background is in commercial real estate as an executive assistant and office manager. My favorite part of my job was designing marketing materials and teaching my coworkers how to use computer programs. I initially considered teaching high school when I finished college, but it turned out I still got to do some teaching at my real estate job, so that was great.
In 2010, I got really sick and started having a long list of neurological issues that really scared me. I had numbness in my arms and legs, dizziness, nausea, and eventually I started having seizures. My doctors suspected multiple causes for my illness, but had no definitive answers. My issues continued for months and I became very discouraged and depressed. A few months after my illness started, I suddenly quit my job to stay home and care for my young daughter. Over the next year and a half, I spent all my time researching my symptoms. I read a lot and googled a lot and finally found something called TheWhole30. This elimination diet is what made me well. Nearly one year later, I still follow Whole30 guidelines most of the time and I am still free from all my mysterious symptoms just from eating healthy food. I continue to be grateful to God for the miraculous healing.
I have suffered from a compulsive hair-pulling disorder called trichotillomania since the age of 9 until last year when I found recovery by changing the foods I eat. Because my urges went away so quietly and unexpectedly, I knew God was performing a true miracle in my life, but it quickly became obvious this wasn’t a healing I could keep to myself. Now, I’m doing whatever I can to spread hope and awareness about this disorder. Because so little is known or understood about trichotillomania, suffering with it can be quite lonely and very isolating. It’s my greatest mission to help others know relief and recovery are possible, and to bring more awareness to the general public so people have a better understanding of the disorder.
I am now convinced that food is what is at the core of so much illness, but food is also at the core of what will make use well. I now share my story of healing to anyone who will listen, and advocate for The Whole30 by Whole9. You can read my complete health recovery story here.

Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind Jesus and touched the edge of his cloak. She said to herself, “If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed.” Jesus turned and saw her. “Take heart, daughter,” he said, “your faith has healed you.” And the woman was healed at that moment. – Matthew 9:20-22
